El día que el futuro no llego

Concrete and rebar
Variable dimensions
The sculpture is composed of cactus cast in concrete at different heights, which exalts the ruin as a connector between the imaginary landscape of the rural territory in Mexico and the unfinished architecture, as a trope of the precarious housing panorama that can be seen throughout the country.
The concept of modernity is nowadays questioned in Mexico as a failed aspiration, and for Juan Rulfo it was the same that left the countryside abandoned. The work depicts rupture, decline and ruin at the same time, while raw materials expose the weak entrails of the structures built by man everyday.
This piece was made expressly for the project “Un eco es un eco es un eco”, a curatorial review by Alejandro Camara Frías about the multidisciplinary work of the Mexican writer and photographer Juan Rulfo.
